Very seriously..

As a surgical intern, i have come across many cases that has been complicated by Diabetes.
Among them is the Diabetic foot.Diabetic foot, in common terms occurs due to pus filled collections occuring in the leg or foot of a person who is diabetic.He/she becomes resistent to treatment (or neglects the condtion) and the infection starts spreading and eating the tissues of the leg.In order to stop the spreading of the infection, surgeons need to amputate the limb with strict controlling and monitoring of the patient's blood suger level.
The pain and grief the patients and their family goes through an amputation, i have witnessed and stood by their side through it as their doctor. I have seen how the morbidity affects them in so many ways. This is just one of the complications of the disease.
Then again, there are those complications that can occur and which is not readily infront of our eyes to be seen like the above mentioned diabetic foot.I would like to mention some of the complications such as kideny affection, deterioration of eye sight and peripheral vascular disease.
My intention is that anyone who reads this post to think about their relatives or friends who are diabetic and to always encourage them to check their blood suger levels to keep it always controlled,to always do regular check ups with their physicians and ask them about doing regular kidney function tests and fundal examinations.Another important thing is not to ignore any sort of pain in both legs.Get medical help and rule out any underlying treatable medical condition. And last but not the least, tell them to always take any infection very very seriously.
...very seriously.
